I don’t watch The X Factor and I probably never will, but people in my twitter timeline wouldn’t shut up about someone named Carly Rose and voting for her. Curious, I checked her out on YouTube and oh my God. Bluesy. Soulful. My kind of music. She’s only 13. I remember hearing JoJo’s “Leave (Get Out)” the first time and within the first few notes you just knew. If she doesn’t win, though I don’t see her losing, someone will pick her up. She’s a once in a generation kind of vocal and you don’t waste that. She doesn’t need a big band behind her or dancers or fancy production or a stupid alter ego. All she needs is a microphone, just stand there and sing. I’m with Demi on this one. I’m obsessed and I want her music now! In an age where artists have to look like cartoon characters to sell music, she’s such a breath of fresh air and a throwback to real soul and real music. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for her.
I’ve been a fan of Taylor’s for awhile. I’ve bought her last three albums, the last two I woke up super early to get them at Target. I’ve been waiting for new Taylor music and I was super excited when I heard she released her single yesterday…until I heard it. Taylor is 22-years-old. Young, bright, talented and teens love her. As she’s grown so has her music and her writing style, but this song is teenybopper hot mess personified. It’s…immature. This is crap compared to “Mine” or “Love Story”. I understand relating to your base, but if this is her sharing her life story with her fans, then it’s no wonder she can’t form lasting relationships with real men.
I love JoJo. I love her voice. I’ve been a fan of hers for about nine years, before she was a couple of sentences in the back of Popstar Magazine. Way before “Leave (Get Out)” became the unexpected Girl Power Anthem of 2004. She has a true gift, and I love it. However…
This song is better than “Disaster”, but not better than her mixtape. The production is good, but the song itself is flat. It’s a good filler for an album, but it doesn’t sound like a single. I’m sure it’ll do fine on the radio because mediocre does well on the radio, but this is beneath her. Anytime a teen or a young adult sings about sex, I don’t take it seriously. It doesn’t sound natural; it sounds like she’s trying too hard. Sex is the ultimate “look at me, I’m not a little girl anymore” ploy, but she doesn’t have to do that. She hasn’t released an album in SIX YEARS, she’s dealing with a whole new generation of listeners who have no idea who she is. And what made JoJo so popular was that she never came across as a kid.
The song is good, but I’m not impressed. Her voice is better than this and I’ve heard much better from her. The best thing about the song is it’s R&B and not the pop crap that was “Disaster”.
She’s not down for the count and she’s still my favorite! Anna’s currently in Alabama filming her new movie “Finding Harmony” where she plays the lead and will also have songs in the film.
HICK!!!
